Upgrading to TimeMap 4 FAQ 1. What are TimeMap 4's Requirements? TimeMap 4 requires Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Home Edition, Windows 2000, or Windows 2003. Windows 95, 98, NT, and ME are not supported (because a number of the new features in TimeMap 4, e.g., 100-page timelines, required functionality not available in these older operating systems). If your computer can run one of the required operating systems listed above, it can run TimeMap 4. The TimeMap 4 installation package is approximately 10 Mb. TimeMap visuals are small, typically well under 1 Mb. 2. What are the new features in TimeMap 4? TimeMap 4 offers loads of new features, including a powerful "Send-to-PowerPoint" feature, vertical timelines, and sophisticated new looks. To learn more about TimeMap 4's many new features, please read What's New in TimeMap 4. You can also view a brief What's New in TimeMap 4 webinar 24/7. 3. Does CaseMap need to be upgraded due to the release of TimeMap 4? No. 4. Can TimeMap 4 and older versions of TimeMap open the same timeline file? No. The file formats for TimeMap 4 has been updated to support TimeMap 4's new features. When a TimeMap 2 or TimeMap 3 timeline file is saved using TimeMap 4, it's converted to the new TimeMap 4 format. And once a timeline file is converted to the new TimeMap 4 format, it cannot be opened by older versions of TimeMap. As such, all TimeMap users should have TimeMap 4 installed at the same time. 5. How do I upgrade from an older version of TimeMap to TimeMap 4? IMPORTANT: At many organizations, the information systems or practice support staff handle the upgrade process. If that's true for your organization, please defer to these individuals. All versions of prior version of TimeMap can upgrade directly to TimeMap 4. To upgrade from an older version of TimeMap to TimeMap 4, simply install TimeMap 4 on your computer and on the computers of all other licensed users. When you install TimeMap 4, your older TimeMap installation will be removed. However, none of the timeline graph files created using an older version of TimeMap will be removed or destroyed. Again, all older timeline files will be left on your system for use with TimeMap 4. 6. How do I register/activate my copy of TimeMap 4? IMPORTANT: At many organizations, the information systems or practice support staff handles the registration/activation process. If that's true for your organization, please defer to these individuals. After you install TimeMap 4, it works for 30 days before requiring activation. Please activate your copy sometime during the 30-day grace period. The easiest way to activate is to do so online. Your TimeMap 4 copy talks to our Activation Server, which stores information about users licensed for TimeMap 4. Once the Activation Server verifies that you're licensed for TimeMap 4, it disables the 30-day countdown timer in your installation of TimeMap 4 leaving you with a full and final copy. You can use your existing TimeMap 3 registration/activation information to activate TimeMap 4. You don't need new information from us. In fact, if you install TimeMap 4 on a machine that had TimeMap 3 on it, TimeMap 4 finds your old TimeMap registration info and is ready for online verification of your TimeMap 4 Upgrade licensing situation. 7.
