Are you a
Legal Technology News (LTN) Subscriber?
Each year the editors of LTN ask the publication’s
more than 40,000 subscribers to select products and vendors
that represented outstanding achievement in legal technology
in 14 award categories.
At CaseSoft we were very proud
to have been selected as a winner and finalist for the past
two years. We couldn’t have garnered that honor if it weren’t
for our client’s votes. We would very greatly appreciate it if
you would take the time to vote for us this year in a number
of the Vendor Award categories and make it another “winning
season!” Hurry, voting closes December 15.
VERY
IMPORTANT: You must be a subscriber of Law Technology News to
vote, but you can subscribe online for free. It’s easy, just
go to: lawtechnews.com and click on the link to
subscribe under the LTN logo on the upper left corner of the
page.
After you subscribe, select the LTN Awards on
the same toolbar you used to select the Subscribe option and
then click on the Vendor Awards Ballot link on the left hand
side. As the voting is time-sensitive, it would very helpful
if you would do so today, or as soon as possible.

the nature of the content and the very limited
seats.
We’re working on Deep Dive sessions related to

Coming Soon:
CaseMap/WORLDOX Integration & CaseMap/Acrobat 8
Integration
CaseMap/WORLDOX Integration:
In late
December or early January, we expect to release a new “Send to
CaseMap” Utility that works with the popular WORLDOX Document
Management System (DMS). This will be a fee-based utility as
it’s the result of a very lengthy development effort and will
require ongoing development and support work.
The “Send
to CaseMap” plug-in for WORLDOX will make it easy to create
new document records in CaseMap based on documents being
stored in WORLDOX. In addition to automatically creating new
document records in CaseMap based on documents stored in
WORLDOX, the plug-in will also link the records created in
CaseMap to the source documents stored in WORLDOX. You can
later display a linked document stored in WORLDOX with one
click in CaseMap. This new utility makes it easy to leverage
the value of both CaseMap and WORLDOX for organizing key case
documents.
We’ll provide additional details on
functionality, links to an overview Webinar, pricing and
release timing details in a future TechnoRelease but wanted to
make you aware this new utility is likely to be released late
next month or in January. This new utility will work with
WORLDOX GX® or higher.
Acrobat 8 Integration:
In
last month’s Client FYI we announced Adobe Systems made
changes in Acrobat 8 that ended up breaking aspects of our
“Send to CaseMap” plug-in for Acrobat. They certainly didn’t
intend this result … it’s a natural byproduct of adding new
features in Acrobat 8 and inadvertently stepping on work we
had done.
We have just finished coding on an updated
version of our Acrobat plug-in that is compatible with Acrobat
8 (as well as Acrobat 6 & 7). Testing is underway on the
new code. If things stay on schedule, we’ll post an updated
version of CaseMap 6.1 that will install the Acrobat 8
compatible “Send to CaseMap” plug-ins before the end of
November. There will be no changes to the “Send to CaseMap”
plug-in’s functionality or to the functionality of CaseMap 6.1
itself. We’re just fixing the aspects that Acrobat 8
broke.

Bennett Blum,
MD Undue Influence – Elder Financial Abuse Webinars - IDEAL
CaseMap Template
“Undue Influence” is a process of excessive or
inappropriate manipulation. It is important in both civil and
criminal litigation, but is often difficult to assess. In
these two Webinar presentations, you will learn about a
behavior-based method of analyzing and presenting undue
influence cases. The method is called “IDEAL,” and uses a
special CaseMap template, soon to be available.
The
IDEAL template was developed by Bennett Blum, M.D., who is an
internationally acclaimed physician specializing in both
forensic and geriatric psychiatry. Dr. Blum is an expert on
the evaluation of the manipulation tactics and psychological
conditions used by offenders to abuse and exploit others. His
pioneering assessment techniques in the areas of undue
influence, mental capacity, and competency are taught
throughout much of the Western Hemisphere.

Influence Webinars produced by LexisNexis CaseMap and

Preparing a
Client for Deposition—DepPrep, Interactive Deposition
Preparation Software
Think of DepPrep, the LexisNexis® CaseMap®
interactive deposition preparation software, as a method and a
structure for tutoring your client. The method in some ways is
more important than the content. That is because DepPrep
doesn’t attempt to foresee everything, and it scripts very
little. DepPrep focuses on a thought process that enables your
client to handle nearly every situation.
DepPrep is
designed to assist in the preparation of a client for
deposition. In addition to accomplishing that, it also
functions as documental due diligence that a lawyer has met a
certain standard of preparation with respect to preparing a
client.
If you choose to use DepPrep to help a
non-party witness prepare for deposition, DepPrep has the
advantage of being neutral in its approach. If the witness is
asked about preparation for deposition, it is relatively
innocuous to respond that a commercial computer program was
used to familiarize the witness with what happens at a
deposition, and that the program emphasizes listening to the
question and answering it truthfully. That is better than the
witness saying one of the party’s attorneys educated the
witness regarding how to answer questions.
DepPrep
thoroughly and interestingly takes care of the basics, freeing
you to focus on wedge issues with your client, without
worrying about omitting important, but mundane, preparation.
DepPrep builds a floor that allows you to erect the walls and
raise the ceiling.
You can download free 30-day trial
copies and get more information on DepPrep at casesoft.com/depprep/index.shtml
