Examples of new Ten-Minute Tutorials:

DepPrep in 10 Minutes --  Attorney David Hirsch, the author of the material in our DepPrep witness preparation tool, explains how DepPrep can be put to work.

What's New in TextMap 2 -- A visual and verbal overview of the many enhanced features in the brand new version of our TextMap transcript summary tool.

2. Dramatically Enhanced Transcript Summary Tool Released

We're pleased to announce the release of TextMap 2, the important new version of our award-winning transcript summary tool that works with CaseMap.

TextMap 2 is just $149 per user license.

A full-featured trial version of TextMap 2 is now available at www.casesoft.com.

You can also view a Ten-Minute Tutorial webinar that shows TextMap 2 in action.

3. What's New in TextMap 2

Here are the most important new features in TextMap 2:

Cross-Transcript Searching

TextMap 2 includes new searching functionality that instantly displays a list of the page/line locations where a word or phrase appears in all case transcripts.  When electronic transcripts are imported into TextMap 2, each word is indexed and added to a word list that appears by default in the Word Search task pane on the right side of the TextMap 2 window.

Built-in PDF Capabilities

TextMap 2 features built-in PDFing like that in CaseMap 5.  Rather than printing TextMap reports, you can create PDFs of them without the need for a full Acrobat license.  There's even a "Print to PDF and Email" option that creates a PDF of a TextMap report and automatically attaches it to an email that's ready to send.

Transcript Highlight Reports

TextMap makes it easy to cull key testimony from transcripts and organize it in CaseMap.  We call the text selections that are sent to CaseMap "highlights" in that they remain highlighted in the transcript for easy identification.  TextMap 2 includes a new Transcript Highlight Report that prints the transcript segments you've sent to CaseMap in the order in which they appear within the source deposition or examination.  Printed below each transcript text selection are the associated fact fields from CaseMap, e.g., Date & Time, Fact Text, Source, Linked Issues.

Search Results Reports

Anytime you conduct a word or phrase search in TextMap 2, two mouse clicks create a printed or PDF report of the search results.  A Search Report lists all word/phrase hits across all transcripts.  For each hit, the transcript name and page/line reference is displayed and followed by the search word displayed in context -- 12 lines of transcript appear above the word hit and 12 lines of transcript appear below.

Condensed Transcript Printing

Two clicks in TextMap 2 and any transcript can be printed or PDFed as either full-sized pages or with "condensed" pages where four transcript pages are placed on a single output page.

Replication & Synchronization

TextMap 2 includes new replication & synchronization features.  You can make a replica of a TextMap file, work in the replica as you travel, e.g., add new transcripts to it and send new transcript highlights to CaseMap, and then meld these additions and edits back into the master TextMap file via synchronization.

"Send-to-CaseMap" Functionality

The key feature of TextMap remains the ability to cull critical passages from transcripts and send them to a CaseMap file where they can be organized.  You can use the Send to CaseMap features of TextMap both to create new facts in CaseMap and to append new sources to existing facts.

The best way to see these features in action is to download the full-featured trial version of TextMap 2 available using this link:

4. Use TimeMap to Create Timeline Graphs of Pretrial Events

TimeMap makes it incredibly easy to create timeline graphs -- so simple that many clients now use TimeMap to create timelines illustrating the schedule of depositions, hearings, and other events preceding trial. This type of visual is great for communicating with the ultimate client and others on the trial team.

7. Putting ReportBooks to Work -- Client War Story

CaseMap 5 makes it easy to create ReportBooks -- compilations of multiple CaseMap reports in a single document that includes a cover page, an introduction, a table of contents, and more.

If you haven't seen a ReportBook, click the link below to view a sample PDF ReportBook.  CaseMap 5 includes the ability to create PDF ReportBooks in just three clicks, and you don't need a full license of Adobe Acrobat to do so because CM5 has built-in PDFing capability.

CaseMap user David Wolowitz sent us the following war story regarding CaseMap 5's new ReportBook feature.

"I've found CaseMap 5's new ReportBook feature to be of great benefit in unexpected ways. I've used it for a number of cases already.

"In one recent matter, I had a mediation to prepare. I was dealing with my clients, two highly educated professionals, a member of their board who is a very astute attorney in NYC, and a savvy insurance adjuster, also an attorney. I needed to educate all of them on the facts and the issues and to determine what information was missing. So, I sent them a CaseMap ReportBook containing four reports -- one of the key facts and three reports of facts organized by key issues.

"It took just a moment to create an impressive title page and to do a brief edit of the default introduction page to add an overview of the status of the case.  From that point on, everyone responded with ideas and missing information. On a weekly basis, I emailed them updated PDF ReportBooks, including a report on what was new (one of the standard CaseMap saved reports).

"Throughout the process, everyone involved commented on my thoroughness and the usefulness of the ReportBooks. I prepared them with very little effort, but received far more attention than if I had not used this feature.

"Thanks in no small part to the communication fostered by my ReportBooks, the mediation went very well. As a side note, I should mention that I gave the mediator a TimeMap report of key dates. I noticed that he kept referring to it throughout the mediation."

If you would like to learn more about creating and using ReportBooks, open the Hawkins example case that comes with CaseMap 5 and preview the defaults available on the ReportBook menu.
