CaseSoft FYI - April 2006 |
|||||
CaseMap 6 is coming soon. We're pleased to announce that this important new version of our flagship case analysis tool is in final testing and should be released by the end of May. Our records indicate that your CaseMap licenses are covered by CaseSoft Extended Maintenance. This means you're eligible for the CaseMap 6 Upgrade at no charge, a savings of $199 per user license. Once CaseMap 6 is ready for download, we'll email our primary contacts at your organization so they can plan for deployment. We're proud of the creative ideas we've built into our tools, e.g. the unique ReportBook work product introduced in CaseMap 5. We think CaseMap 6 offers several similar innovation home runs. For example, the new Intake Interview Jumpstart feature lets the ultimate client provide you with case background information electronically and then automatically imports this knowledge into a number of CaseMap spreadsheets. It's a very practical feature that delivers on two of CaseMap's core benefits -- early case analysis and building terrific client rapport. Learn more in Item 4 below. CaseMap 6 also offers new tools that make it easier to analyze Summary Judgment risks and opportunities and to prepare MSJs and Memorandum in Opposition to Summary Judgment. Details in item 5 below. We're also introducing an optional new tool in conjunction with CaseMap 6: our new PDF Bates Stamping product. Our Bates Stamper makes it easy to mark any number of PDFs with custom-formatted Bates Numbers. Better yet, CaseMap can sniff out these Bates Numbers and use them to automatically complete the Bates Number columns in CaseMap's Document Index spreadsheet. While Acrobat & CaseMap aren't the right solution for cases with 100,000s or 1,000,000s of documents, they now make an even better choice for the large percentage of cases that have a don't have this many documents. Details about this new product appear in item 2. In summary, we'd like to think CaseMap 6 is both more powerful and even easier to use. We hope you'll agree. CaseSoft Client FYI is our monthly e-mail newsletter (click to view prior issues) providing updates and tips for CaseMap, TimeMap, NoteMap, TextMap, and DepPrep users. Please follow the instructions located at the bottom of this email message anytime you would like to unsubscribe. |

CaseMap 6 is in final testing and should be released before the end of May. As mentioned above, our records indicate you're covered by CaseSoft Extended Maintenance. This means you're eligible for the CaseMap 6 Upgrade at no charge, a savings of $199 per user license. Once CaseMap 6 is ready for download, we'll email our primary contacts at your organization so they can plan for deployment. We apologize for the fact we don't have a beta version of CaseMap 6 available for download as we're making important modifications to CaseMap's installation program that we expect will only be completed and tested at final release. We have, however, created a series of online tutorials that show specific CaseMap 6 features in action. Links are provided to these webinars in the topics below. Here are some of the changes coming in CaseMap 6:

2. New CaseSoft Product: PDF Bates Stamper When we release CaseMap 6 next month, we'll also be introducing a new CaseSoft product: The CaseMap PDF Bates Stamper. The CaseMap PDF Bates Stamper is an Acrobat Plug-in we've developed that makes it easy to add Bates Stamps to single PDFs or batches of PDFs. In addition to providing flexible Bates Stamping options and being very easy to use, there's an important and unique aspect to the CaseMap PDF Bates Stamper: The Bates Numbers our new Acrobat Plug-in adds to PDFs can be detected by CaseMap and used to automatically complete Bates-Begin and Bates-End fields in your CaseMap Document Index spreadsheet. A bit of background: We didn't start out trying to create our own Bates Stamper that would work with CaseMap. Rather, we were hoping to find a way to detect the Bates Stamps other Acrobat Plug-ins added to PDFs. We discovered that the way these other products create Bates Stamps meant they couldn't be reliably detected. This led us to develop our own Acrobat Bates Stamping Plug-in that would work with CaseMap and to invest many months of development and testing efforts creating it. You can see the new CaseMap PDF Bates Stamper in action this Friday by attending the webinar discussed below or by viewing this prerecorded webinar . . . Click to view CaseMap Bates Stamper Overview prerecorded webinar (18 minutes) The CaseSoft Bates Stamper is an optional tool that we're selling for $149 per user license -- a price that's substantially below other PDF Bates Stamping Plug-ins that are fine products, but which don't integrate with CaseMap. Please note that you must have Acrobat Standard or Professional and CaseMap 6 to use our new Bates Stamper product. For simplicity, the CaseMap Bates Stamper will be installed in Acrobat as part of the CaseMap 6 installation process. In addition to offering single-user licenses, we're also offering organization licenses that cover 5-10 users for $495, 11-20 users for $895, 21-50 users for $1495, 50-100 users for $1995 and 100+ users for $2995. Write sales@casesoft.com if you're interested in a quote for your organization. Special Offer on PDF Bates Stamper - Save $50 per license Until April 30, we're offering a special price of $99 per user license on the CaseMap PDF Bates Stamper, a saving of $50 on the normal $149 price. A decision to take advantage of this special offer is protected by our year-long total-satisfaction guarantee. The 1-year guarantee period won't start until CaseMap 6 and our new PDF Bates Stamper have been released. Click to purchase CaseSoft Bates Stamper licenses at the special prerelease price. Enhanced Acrobat Integration in CaseMap 6 CaseMap 6 features a number of other important enhancements to the integration between Acrobat and CaseMap. Here are some examples of the new CM6/Acrobat functionality:
To learn more about these new features, please view these prerecorded webinars . . . Click to view the CaseMap 6/Acrobat Integration Overview prerecorded webinar (21 minutes) We also have a new white paper that summarizes the litigation-oriented features of Acrobat . . . Click to view the PDF version of "The Three Flavors of Adobe Acrobat: A Litigation Perspective" Acrobat Training Live Webinar Many clients have asked us the teach not just our own tools but also Adobe Acrobat. As such, we've recently added a new live webinar session called "Acrobat in Half a Day." It doesn't cover CaseSoft tools at all, but rather teaches the ins and outs of Acrobat. The next Acrobat in Half a Day class is set for Tuesday, May 9. It's conducted as two two hour webinars -- one running from 12:00 - 2:00 ET and the second running from 3:30 - 5:30 ET. Class size is limited to 12 so everyone's questions can be answered. The fee for this session is $125. Please write csa@casesoft.com with questions or to schedule.

3. CaseMap 6's New Intake Interview Jumpstart Feature The new Intake Interview Jumpstart feature is another example of the innovations coming in CaseMap 6. This feature makes it easy to email clients or prospective clients a word-processing document they can use to provide you with background information about the persons, organizations and facts in their case and also about the questions they have regarding how you're going to handle their matter. When clients return the completed CaseMap Intake Interview Form to you, a wizard imports it into CaseMap 6 filling in five spreadsheets and jumpstarting the creation of a new case file or augmenting the information you've already collected. CaseMap 6 even automatically creates a ReportBook that summarizes the information your clients provided and lays out the next steps in the case analysis process. The result of the Intake Interview Jumpstart? You get a case file up and rolling with incredibly little work at the same time you honor your clients by getting them heavily involved in the case analysis process. The Intake Interview Jumpstart feature works well with numerous types of clients, including with corporate counsel who so frequently live with a dispute for months or years before it turns into a piece of litigation. We've just completed a new 17-minute online tutorial that shows the Intake Interview Jumpstart feature in action . . . Click to view the Intake Interview Jumpstart prerecorded webinar You can also check out the input and one of the outputs from the Intake Interview Jumpstart process . . . 4. CaseMap 6's Motion for Summary Judgment Features We've honed the Summary Judgment-related features of CaseMap 6. The result is that CaseMap 6 makes it far easier to . . .
CaseMap 6 includes a new Summary Judgment wizard that sends the undisputed facts or the disputed facts related to one or more case issues to your word processor for inclusion in a MSJ/Memorandum in Opposition to MSJ or for use as a Separate Statement of Material Facts. The word-processing document CaseMap creates lists these undisputed or disputed facts underneath the issues to which they relate. You determine which issues are included in the word-processing document and the format used to list facts. CaseMap 6 also includes two new features that make it easy to evaluate summary judgment opportunities and risks. The default view of the Issue spreadsheet in each CaseMap 6 file presents new columns that display the counts of undisputed and disputed facts linked to each case issue. Scan down these columns and you'll instantly see where opportunities/risks of Summary Judgment are present. Click the counts to inspect the facts behind the figures. A new Issue Analysis mode in CaseMap 6 provides another way to evaluate Summary Judgment. CaseMap 6's Issue Analysis mode makes it a cinch to filter the Fact spreadsheet based on the issues to which facts are linked, whether facts are disputed or undisputed, etc. We believe the Issue Analysis mode will be particularly handy for those who aren't familiar with using CaseMap. You can see some of CaseMap 6's Summary Judgment-related features in action by viewing a new 17-minute online tutorial we've prepared to illustrate them . . .
