Quickly bring the events in your case into clear focus with TimeMap 5 software. A new Spreadsheet View, global-find-and-replace feature, expanded image capabilities and improved date display options will help you streamline fact organization.

Download a 30-day trial or upgrade now.

TimeMap helps you transform facts in your case into a visual timeline of events in minutes—no graphic expertise required! Visual timelines make it easy for your litigation team, witnesses, clients, the judge, jurors and other key players to understand the sequence of events in a case. And with TimeMap you keep production costs low at pennies per timeline.

TimeMap works seamlessly with CaseMap® fact and issue management software. With a click, you can send facts from CaseMap to TimeMap. Then just let TimeMap handle the rest!

Convey Fact Patterns Clearly with More Display Options

  • Override the date text within fact boxes to customize your timeline.
  • The actual date will remain in the Spreadsheet View for accurate fact management.
  • Select options to globally hide the year, month, etc., as needed, to improve logical flow.

Increase Efficiency with the New Spreadsheet View

  • To switch from the Timeline View to the Spreadsheet View, just click the tab at the top of your screen.
  • To add a fact in the Spreadsheet View, go to the cell that reads “Click here to add a new fact” and start inputting your time information.
  • If your fact has an attachment, the TimeMap 5 Spreadsheet View shows the attachment as a paper clip to the left of the Date & Time column.

Make a Greater Impact with Customized Graphic Images

  • Add graphics and photos inside or outside your Fact and Text Boxes to create memorable timelines. TimeMap 5 accepts jpeg, gif, bmp and Windows® metafile images.
  • To add pictures outside your Fact and Text Boxes, while in the Timeline View, go to the Insert menu and click Picture.
  • In the sub-menu, select Choose Picture (stock TimeMap images) or Clip Art to insert the desired graphic file from your collection.

Save Time with the Find and Replace Feature

  • Go to the Edit menu and select Find or Replace.
  • Enter the text you wish to find (e.g., someone’s name that needs correcting or a key fact you need to locate). If desired, enter replacement text. Click the appropriate action button on the right.

Navigating Through Litigation with CaseMap®
How litigation teams can use CaseMap as a GPS ... and find the clear way to go.

Regardless of the size or complexity of a case, litigation teams use CaseMap® fact and issue management software to yield effective results in almost any type of litigation. In the August/September 2009 National Paralegal Reporter®, Heather Moreau, senior paralegal at Paul Frank + Collins in Burlington, Vt., compares CaseMap to a GPS: “CaseMap acts as our GPS leading us down new roads, through forgotten avenues, and around detours—allowing us to arrive at our destination knowing that we have taken the shortest and most effective path.”

Download the full article, “Navigating through Litigation: What Kind of ‘Map’ Do You Use?” reprinted by permission from The National Federation of Paralegal Associations, Inc., www.paralegals.org.

How Can CaseMap Act as Your GPS?

Be confident you’re going in the right direction. Comprehensive case assessment early and throughout litigation eliminates unnecessary costs and enables you to determine the best course of action, quickly and with confidence. CaseMap brings together key case facts, issues, relevant research, even the critical insights of your team so you can achieve greater clarity during case development.

Become more fuel efficient. Everyone has access and insight into the information that is within CaseMap—and in real time. So now you can receive greater return on investment for the time and money spent in developing a case. Your research content plus CaseMap provides a more efficient approach in providing greater control in case development.

See what lies ahead. With CaseMap, you can see vital fact patterns emerge and create timeline visuals in minutes to help you:

  • Impress the judge
  • Think through case strategy
  • Brief other team members and clients.

Patrick Berry at Shea Stokes Roberts & Wagner in San Diego comments, “It is crucial to be able to run reports for general counsel and produce timelines that visually display when events happened. He notes that timelines, driven from CaseMap in “the click of a button,” are critical to early case evaluation and are often used in mediations at his office.

Get there instantly: Need to continually update your client on the status of his case? The CaseMap ReportBook feature compiles all your critical knowledge and packages it together into one polished PDF report, complete with a cover page, table of contents and an introduction for your client. Whenever you need a quick response, CaseMap instantly delivers.

Be sure to share the ride!
CaseMap allows everyone on the team to better collaborate and helps eliminate silos where disparate information resides with different team members. Without the benefit of CaseMap, you and others on your litigation team may be saving facts in hardbound case notebooks, on legal pads, in e-mail messages, in Microsoft® Word documents, on PDAs, in filing cabinets and outside the office.

As Moreau wrote, “All of this great work [in case notebooks] can only be reviewed in isolation. Each fact is buried in a separate summary, log or document. Connections between events are not obvious. Our notebooks serve as our map, but it’s an antiquated map in which some of the new roads and shortcuts have not yet been identified.” But when using CaseMap, “ ... The whole team interacts with the software ensuring ‘that nothing gets missed in the development of our defense. It provides a central information bank that everyone can access and contribute to.’”

Easily Conduct Research Directly from CaseMap®

With CaseMap® 8.5 fact and issue management software, you gain more in-depth research integration than ever before. You can now conduct LexisNexis® research on organizations, experts, attorneys, judges, arbitrators, mediators and authorities directly from CaseMap.

You may already be aware of how easy it is to send information from LexisNexis® Total Litigator or lexis.com® to the CaseMap Research and Authorities spreadsheet. Now CaseMap enhancements to the research spreadsheet give you a stronger connection to LexisNexis research. And even better, with new CaseMap 8.5, you can go to the Objects spreadsheets to quickly research issues, organizations, experts, attorneys, judges, etc.

Below are a few examples of convenient research you can perform without ever leaving CaseMap.

Research Previous Jury Rulings on an Issue

From the Issues spreadsheet, click the Issue in question, click the down-arrow at the right side of the issue cell and select Search for Jury Verdicts and Settlements. You can also search for Jury Instructions or send the issue to LexisNexis Total Litigator for a General and Legal News search.

Research Organizations for Background to Support Your Claims

It takes just a few clicks! Go to the Organizations spreadsheet. Click the organization in question and click the down-arrow on the right side of the cell. Make a menu selection to conduct a:

  • lexis.com search for the company
  • Background check
  • Guided public records search
  • Company Dossier report
  • Litigation profile report
  • Company Analyzer report
  • Dockets and documents search
  • LexisNexis Total Litigator search to get a jump on your early case assessment
You can take similar steps to research a particular witness.

Learn More About Opposing Counsel in a Case

Just enter the attorney’s name as opposing counsel on the Persons spreadsheet in CaseMap. Click the cell and click the down-arrow on the right side. Click to quickly find that attorney on the Martindale-Hubbell® Lawyer Locator. You can also run an Attorney Litigation Profile report. You can use the same process to analyze the judge, arbitrator or mediator presiding over the case.

Check Your Authorities

On the Research - Authorities spreadsheet, Shepard’s Signal™ indicators automatically appear with your citations to indicate treatment by the courts. When you click an Authority Name and click the down-arrow to the right, you can easily Shepardize® the item or use the Shepard’s Alert® feature to set up prompt notification when important changes occur in your cases, statutes, regulations and other authorities.
