Exporting
CaseMap® ReportBook Templates
You
may have used the ReportBook feature in CaseMap® fact
and issue management software—and even created a few
customized ReportBooks of your own design. But did you
know that you can export these customized ReportBooks as
templates and import them into a new CaseMap case or
custom case template?
The first step is to
create a customized ReportBook through the Reports menu.
You can either modify the default ReportBooks or create
an entirely new one tailored to your needs.
Then, export your ReportBook:
- Go
to Reports > ReportBooks > ReportBook Tools >
Export and
Import.
- From
there you can either Save a
ReportBook Definition to File or Email
a ReportBook Definition. For this example, we will
choose to save the definition to file. Then you can
choose which ReportBook to export and specify the
location and name under which to save the
template.
It
is important to note that the exported template does not
include any data. The report will be populated with the
data from the case in which it is being used. You should
avoid using filters that involve case-specific criteria,
such as witnesses; since those items are not likely to
exist in future cases, they can result in a blank
report. You can always make further modifications to a
ReportBook and export it again as necessary.
Once you have successfully exported your
ReportBook definition, you can proceed with importing it
into another CaseMap case or template:
- Open
the file into which you want to import the ReportBook
template.
- Go
to Reports > ReportBooks > ReportBook Tools >
Export and
Import.
- Choose
the option to Import a
ReportBook Definition from a File.
- You
are prompted to select which ReportBook you wish to
import. Browse to the location where you saved the
exported template, select it and click Open.
Click OK.

you have any questions, please do not hesitate to
contact us at 904-373-2160 or casemap.support@lexisnexis.com.

Bulk
Printing Linked PDFs
The ability to bulk print all PDFs linked to
your CaseMap database has been available since CaseMap
6. At first this was possible only from the Documents
spreadsheet. With the release of CaseMap 8, however, you
can bulk print PDFs from the Facts spreadsheet.
Please keep in mind that the feature is built in
to the Adobe® Acrobat® file viewer. This file viewer is
set only when you use the Send to CaseMap plug-in from
Adobe or the Adobe PDF Bulk Importer. It is possible to
manually change the file viewer if you really need to
bulk print your PDFs.
If
you have used either of the above options to build your
document index with linked PDF documents, you can use
the following steps to print those
files.
- Filter
your spreadsheet to show only the documents that you
need to print.
- Go
to the Tools menu, choose Linked
Files, and then choose Batch
Processing. You should now see a final
menu with various options for batch processing your
linked PDF documents.
- Under
the heading for Acrobat, you will see the option to
Print Linked
PDFs. Choose this option, read the
warning that is displayed, and then click
OK.
- CaseMap
displays a listing of the files found in your
spreadsheet that are available for printing. From this
menu, you have the option to open any of the files for
viewing and/or remove any files you do not wish to
print.
- Click
OK
and CaseMap will display a final dialog box that
displays the name of the printer where these files
will be printed.
- If
that is correct, choose Yes
to proceed and CaseMap will print the linked files.

Using
Your TimeMap® Visual in a Microsoft® Word
Document
Do you need to insert your TimeMap® timeline
into a Microsoft® Word document? Not a problem!
The process of adding a TimeMap visual to a Word
document involves converting the visual to an image
file. A Windows® Enhanced Metafile (.emf) is the best
format option for this purpose.
Here are the
steps:
- If
you have not already saved any changes to your visual,
go to the File menu and choose Save as
Visual.
- Go
to the Edit menu and choose Copy
Metafile to Clipboard. Then, choose
Copy One
Page of Visual to Clipboard as a
Metafile.
- Choose
the page you wish to copy into the document and click
OK.
- Open
your Word document and place your cursor at the point
where you wish to insert the image file. Right-click
the mouse at this point and choose Paste.
Your single-page image should now
appear.
- Edit
the properties of the image as
desired.
- Repeat
the steps for each successive page that you wish to
add to your document.
